USAjobs.gov, the official jobsite of the United States, publishes approximately 30,000 jobs every day. Out of these, almost 50% of the jobs are applicable for Veterans who are given preference in jobs as a token of respect and honor for the sacrifices made by them.

Which Veterans are Eligible?

The following persons are eligible to be included as veterans:

 1. A person who has been discharged from the military services under honorable conditions
2. A person who has suffered disability to the extent of 30% or more while on military duty, in case the person is applying for a position in the disabled category
3. A person who has suffered disability in the range of 10 to 30%, while on military duty when the person applies for a competitive position (not under disabled category)
4. A veteran who is recipient of purple heart
5. Spouse of a veteran, in case the veteran is severely disabled and cannot be employed, or where the veteran has retired from the occupation
6. A person who is a widow or widower of the veteran. This clause is applicable, provided the widow, the widower has not been divorced from the veteran and has not remarried, or in case of remarriage, the marriage has been annulled
7. Mother of a deceased veteran, where she is married or remarried to the father of the veteran, and the father is disabled or is a widow or divorcee of the father of the veteran
8. Mother of a disabled veteran, if the veteran has suffered permanent disability and cannot be employed due to the disability

You will have to provide documentary evidence confirming your status as a veteran, in any of the above categories. Based on the type of job you apply to, you will be awarded either 5 or 10 points to the score gained at the exam.

Federal agencies offer a wide range of jobs. These jobs may be located all over the United States. When you apply for a job, you need to read the instructions carefully, and fill in each detail as per the instruction given, else your application will be deemed as invalid and you will lose the chance of being selected.

Senior executive service jobs are at supervisory and managerial levels. To be eligible to apply for this post, in addition to the academic qualifications required for the post, you need to have the executive core qualifications.

As per the OPM, executive core qualification means a person applying for the SES job, should have the following qualities:

 1. The person should be result oriented
2. The person should have leader ship qualities
3. The person should be able to and be ready to bring about changes
4. The person should possess keen business sense
5. The person should be able to build coalitions

If you have the above-mentioned qualities as well as the academic and professional qualifications as mentioned in the job announcement, either you can apply for the job directly with the Federal Agency or you can apply for SES development program of federal agency.

The federal agency will then scrutinize and grade the applications for technical and professional qualifications as the case may be. The job of judging the executive core qualifications is entrusted to the OPM.

The salary in the SES position is determined by the individual performance. If the job requires exceptional skills and qualifications, then you can earn up to 100% of basic salary as bonus. Thus, for the right candidate, salary will not be a constraint. You need to fill in the application form and submit it as soon as possible, within the stipulated time frame. Many a times, you will have just 15 days to fill and submit the application form.

As we have seen, SES jobs are different from the other categories of jobs. In addition to professional skills, personal skills play a vital role in getting the job. When you apply for a job, the potential employer will know you only through your resume. Secondly, most of the federal agencies use software such as Resumix to scan the resumes. This software will look for specific keywords. Therefore, if your resume does not contain the related keywords, you will miss the opportunity, in spite being the right candidate.

At Federal Resume Writer, we prepare your resume, keeping in mind, the position applied for. We are professional resume writer service providers, and writing resume for federal jobs is our niche. Since we have over 15 years of experience in this profession, we are well aware of the keywords used for each type of federal jobs. Hence, with our resume, you can increase your chance of securing SES job.

Navy regularly announces job vacancies in the civilian category. As you might be aware, Navy civilian jobs are lucrative as compared to the private jobs. Moreover, these jobs command respect from the others.

Let us see how you can apply for a Navy civilian job:

 1. As in case of any job vacancy, you will have to begin with your resume. Your resume should be written professionally and should have all the details pertaining to your family background, educational background, and previous employment history if any, in addition to your name, address and contact details.
2. The resume should be brief and should run in to not more than two pages.
3. The resume should be designed keeping in view the post to be applied for.
4. As is the case with the federal jobs, the best site to find Navy civilian jobs is www.USAJobs.gov. This is the official job site of the US government. You can directly apply for the post announced from this jobsite, after uploading your resume at the site.
5. All the instructions mentioned in the job requirements have to be strictly adhered.
6. You have to fill in all the details asked for and submit the form with in the stipulated time.

After receiving the applications, the Navy will make use of Resumix- software that will scan and select the resumes based on the keywords. Sometimes, instead of software, the resumes are scanned manually for the keyword. Therefore, if your resume does not contain the required keywords, then it will go unnoticed and you will lose a chance to get a job.

You may find it difficult to know what keywords will be able to grab attention, whether the resumes are scanned manually or will the help of software. However, at Federal Resume Writer, we are professional resume writer service providers. With our extensive experience in resume writing, particularly with the federal jobs, we understand the nitty-gritty of the federal procedures and the keywords that needs to be mentioned in the resume while applying for a particular job.

If you have already located a job at USAjobs.gov, then do not waste time. Contact us now for an appointment. We will conduct an initial interview; we will prepare your resume and the covering letter according to the job you have selected at the official job site. We will hand you the soft copy as well as the hard copy of the resume so that you can apply for the job short-listed by you.

Veterans spend fruitful years of their lives in the armed forces to serve the nation. While performing their duties, some of them may have suffered permanent disability, while some others may have breathed their last while on active duty.

In order to honor the services of the veterans, the government gives them preference in employment, when they are relieved from active duty under honorable conditions. In case of disabled or deceased veteran, preference in job is given to the widow, unmarried widow or the mother of the veteran.

As a veteran, you can apply for the jobs in three categories namely:

 1. Competitive Category: This is the most common method of employment. Veterans will apply for a position and will have to fill in form SF 15. In this form, you will have to prove your status as a veteran. You can be awarded 5 to 10 points for having the status of a veteran. As the name suggest, in this category, you will be competing with the other eligible candidates.
2. Non competitive category: This category is to be filled in only by the veterans. To qualify for this post, a veteran must be disabled to an extent of 30% or more. There are no laid down procedures for appointment in this category. The sole authority will lie in the hands of the appointing agency. However, if there is more than one candidate for the same post, then the principle of veteran preference will apply, meaning a veteran who has scored more points will get the job.
3. Merit Promotion: In this category, the veteran will compete with the other federal employees. The principle of preference is not applicable in this case.

As seen from above, before applying for a job, you have to know whether you are eligible for applying as a veteran. Moreover, you have to decide on the category under which you can apply for a job.

Whichever job category you may fit in, you will need a resume, which is well written and is able to highlight your strengths. In addition, you will need a covering letter and application letter seeking employment.

At Federal Resume Writer, we save you of all the hard work of writing a resume that suits the post applied for, as well as an apt covering letter and application letter. So, to score above the rest, consider using our experienced career counselors. You can also call us to get an appointment to speak with us at 888-247-3786.
