Qualifications

Education:  Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Experience:  Minimum of 3 to 5 years in implementing and advancing social service programs. Ability to coordinate staff and volunteer activities.  Ability to interpret program trends, results, related data, and budget information to formulate recommendations. Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong skills in planning and problem-solving.

Management Experience:  Preferred 6 months – 1 year supervisory experience.

Skills and Abilities:  Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills. Develops project plans & participates in budget preparation. Possesses in-depth knowledge of community programs and services.  Maintains confidentiality; works with integrity and ethically.

Other:  Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Travel:  May involve travel.

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements

Depending on work assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. Work Conditions:

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:

This position is responsible for the management of all aspects of the ‘Boots to Business’ veteran employment project funded by MGM Resorts International. This includes creating a local collaborative of employment and veteran organizations to feed the candidate pipeline, coordinating Red Cross’ participation in candidate recruitment events,  build relations with host employment companies (including MGM), recruit / manage / support volunteer presenters and project support volunteers, and coordinate / support Reconnection Workshops activity as needed. The purpose of the project is to provide pre-employment services (resume review, interview coaching, etc.), post-employment services (reintegration workshops, leadership transition workshops, etc), and support services (Coping with Deployments class, creating mentor network).

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assure exemplary customer service to all customers, clients, donors and volunteers

• Manage, assign, support, and supervise program staff (both paid and volunteer).

Manage, assign, support, and supervise department staff (both paid and volunteer).

• Project table of organization is kept current to include volunteers sufficient to meet business needs.
• Volunteer job descriptions are approved by designated chapter approvers for all positions indicated on the table of organization.
• New volunteers are contacted within 48 hours of receiving the referral from the volunteer services team. Volunteers are engaged (begin their work) as soon as volunteer’s schedule allows.
• Staff is provided training per their job descriptions within 60 days of accepting their position (unless otherwise noted on job description)
• Volunteers consistently rate overall job satisfaction in surveys at 80% or greater.
• Volunteer Attrition rate is comparable to other areas / departments within the chapter.
• Staff is supported sufficiently to achieve tasks/objectives by established deadlines.
• Staff is matched with jobs aligned with their skills and abilities as evidenced by accomplishment of tasks/objectives by established deadlines.

Manage delegated internal and external relationships. Ensure Red Cross representation at various community agency events and initiatives.

• Red Cross has regular representation at employee recruitment fairs / events to promote recruitment of military members into the Boots to Business program.
• Individuals, businesses, and agencies whose relationship management is delegated to the Veteran Employment Specialist (you) are updated quarterly on chapter activities and are met face-to-face at least annually.
• Liaison with delegated military and employment related officials as needed to build effective partnerships and include key stakeholders in the project; typically meeting no less than quarterly to update on progress and keep them informed.
• Liaison with host employers to ensure placement opportunities for candidates coming through the Boots to Business Program.
• Maintain effect relationships with chapter volunteers and employees to execute grant deliverables.

Applicant’s education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.   Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.     Education/Experience Requirements:

• Nurse I Level I – An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
• Nurse I Level II – An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor’s degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
• Nurse I Level III – An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
• Nurse II – A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master’s degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.

Marketing and Regulatory Programs representatives plan to attend the following Career Fairs and Recruitment events. We encourage all interested students and recent graduates to stop by and talk to us in person!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture offers different pathway opportunities for students and recent graduates to work in the agricultural, science, technology, math, environmental, management, business and many other fields. These programs, collectively the Pathways Programs, are streamlined developmental programs tailored to promote employment opportunities for students and recent graduates in the Federal workforce. The programs are as follows:

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: The Internship Programs provide paid work experience to students who are in high school or pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in an accredited college or university (including Home-Schooling, Certificate Programs and Community Colleges). Internships can be seasonal (Summer, Fall, Spring) or year round.

RECENT GRADUATES PROGRAM: The Recent Graduates Programs provides individuals who have recently graduated from accredited educational institutions or programs with developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service. Participants must have obtained a degree, or completed a qualifying career or technical education program within the preceding 2 years. Eligible veterans who are unable to apply within the 2-year timeframe due to an active duty service obligation may apply within 2 years from their date of discharge or release from active duty, but no later than 6 years from completing their degree requirements.

PRESIDENTIAL MANAGEMENT FELLOWS (PMF) PROGRAM: The PMF is a prestigious, competitive program that supports leadership development of recent graduates of master’s and professional degree programs who have completed a rigorous assessment process administered by the Office of Personnel Management.  Fellows are provided a 2-year appointment at USDA may that lead to a conversion to a permanent appointment.
