In the Secret Service, we:

  • Protect the President, the Vice President, and other leaders; investigate threats against them; and safeguard their residences and other facilities
  • Plan and implement security designs for National Special Security Events
  • Investigate financial crimes including fraud, identity theft and computer-based attacks on banking or telecommunications infrastructure

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working long hours, travel and extensive physical activity are required.
  • Time-in-grade requirement must be met.

Duties

1 vacancy – Los Angeles, CA

As a Special Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Driving a protective vehicle and being thoroughly familiar with routes, time frames and sites; assisting in coordinating motorcades; maintaining a fleet of government vehicles.
  • Standing post and conducting security inspections of facilities; controlling access of visitors and inspecting mail and packages; searching, inspecting and maintaining vehicles.
  • Monitoring and operating various communication and other equipment; operating magnetometers.
  • Searching crime scenes and seized vehicles; cataloguing evidence.
  • Maintaining and inventorying property, equipment, weapons and munitions; issuing weapons to gun carrying personnel; serving as an emergency responder.

Qualifications and Evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

To qualify at the GL-6 level, you must possess:

  • At least one year of specialized experience which is: maintaining security posts, monitoring and operating communications equipment.To qualify at the GL-7 level, you must possess:
  • At least one year of specialized experience which is: maintaining security posts, patrolling/guarding visitor access, monitoring and operating communications equipment, and operating magnetometers.To qualify at the GL-8 level, you must possess:
  • At least one year of specialized experience which is: detaining persons and having arrest authority, providing protection for property and facilities, gathering information concerning incidents, accidents and suspicious packages.
