What Does HR Say Now!

In October I attended a career convention and had the opportunity to ask questions about what an HR person looks for in an applicant. Here is what they say:

1. Question: What do you think about Portfolio type resumes online. Answer: We like them because they provide us with a broader view of the applicant.

2. How do you feel about the latest trend in social networking? Answer: We look up people on Linkedin, My Space and others. We recommend that people who put personal information about themselves be careful. it may turn the HR person off if they locate you on those new sites. Everyone should sign in on Linkedin.com because it is a professional website for social networking.

3. What is the first thing you look at when you look at the resume? Answer: We look at the Education first and check for accuracy. Do not state bogus degrees. If you cheat you will get caught. Resume Fraud is an issue that is not acceptable.

4. How do you feel about a professional resume writer writing a resume for someone? Answer: We love it because it is professional and the resume writer states what we want to see on the resume, they know what we are looking for on a resume.

5. What about salary negotiation? Answer: Do your research by State. State your worth, Get what you are used to, if the salary isn’t high enough do the add ons such as a car, blackberry, laptop or other. Know the range of salary that is acceptable.

6. HR person recommend a great blog website: http://blogs.msdn.com/jobsblog
